More about Non-Surgical Solutions for Women

For most women, hair is much more than a physical attribute – it’s a part of who you are. We offer women the most natural looking solutions for all types of hair loss, from site specific solutions for thinnning hair to total coverage solutions for hair loss caused by alopecia or chemotherapy.

You Are Not Alone

If your hair loss has left you feeling self-conscious and worried, know that you are not alone. 1 in every 4 women suffer from hair loss or thinning hair. Majority of women suffer from hair loss caused by androgentic alopecia, or genetic hair loss, but the causes range from hormones to stress to medications or illness. For females, finding the best solution for a specific cause can be difficult and often frustrating at times.

Experiencing thinning hair or hair loss of any kind also has the power to affect more than just physical appearance. Hair loss can effect a large part of a woman’s identity and her self-confidence. Experiencing hair loss can cause a person to become more and more self-conscious and in some cases depressed.

Amazing Results

Until recently, the available options for women were limited to wigs or topical treatments originally intended for male pattern baldness.

Hair grafting is a non-surgical procedure that uses a site specific method of hair integration allowing us to re-create any hair style prior to hair loss. Non-Surgical vs. Surgical Hair Loss Solutions

We’ve been talking a lot lately about our advanced surgical solutions for hair loss, but we don’t want to forget about what brought this company into fruition in the first place… non-surgical hair restoration.

Our non-surgical procedure is a safe and effective way to restore the look, style and feel of any hair style before it was lost. The advancements in products over the years have made this a solution for ALL types of hair loss, so everyone is a candidate.

What is it?

Using state of the art technology, our custom, human hair systems allow us to recreate any hair style prior to hair loss or thinning hair. These “hair systems” are nothing like the toupees and wigs of the past – they are like an undetectable second skin; a porous membrane that looks like your real scalp, holds hair like your real scalp and is treated like hair growing from your own scalp. The skin-like base material feels natural to the touch and is virtually invisible to the eye. Our solutions are hand-made and use 100% human hair to match the color, texture and even density of any hair type.

How Does it Work?

This non-surgical procedure starts by meeting with an experienced, trained professional to create your customized order. The hair system is then integrated and blended with your own hair, creating a completely natural look.

Once completed, you treat the hair just like you would your natural, growth hair. You can brush and style it any way you’d like, go to the gym and workout, you can even go swimming or get in the ocean. We also have solutions that allow for a gradual, subtle transition; so your hair restoration draws no attention to others.

Interest-free monthly payments available.

Solutions for Traction Alopecia

Traction Alopecia – Hair Transplant Solutions

Traction Alopecia is a hair loss condition caused by damage to the dermal papilla and hair follicle by constant pulling or tension over a long period of time. It often occurs in persons who wears tight braids, especially “cornrows” that lead to high tension, pulling and breakage of hair.

This condition is most common in African-American women and men who braid their hair too tightly. It is also common in Sikh men of India and Japanese women whose traditional hair styles also pull and damage hair. Traction alopecia occurs more frequently in children, teenagers and young adults then it does in older women and men.

Traction alopecia is reversible if diagnosed early, but may lead to permanent hair loss if it is undetected for a protracted period. Hair loss is often in the frontal and temporal regions, but also depends on the hair style. With those who wear cornrows, the area most commonly affected is that adjacent to the region that is braided.

Traction Alopecia can also occur due to over-processing of the hair. Chemical treatment of hair with dyes, bleaches, or straighteners disrupts the keratin structure in a manner that reduces its tensile strength. The hair can become fragile and heavy fall out can occur with brushing or combing.

The use of thermal or chemical hair straightening, and hair braiding or weaving are examples of styling techniques that place African American women at high risk for various “traumatic” alopecias.

The key to stopping traction alopecia is detecting it early. Hair styles that put unnecessary strain on the hair root must be changed for “looser”, more gentle hair styles. Women who suspect they may be vulnerable to traction alopecia should take action immediately to change their hair style or treatment methods and by all means, take the time to see a dermatologist. Professional hair stylists specializing in braids, cornrows, weaving and chemical processing should warn their clients about traction alopecia.

Most people don’t know that hair transplantation is one of the only solutions to traction alopecia. Unfortunately, no medical treatment is available to reverse late-stage traction alopecia. Hair grafts have been identified as the only practical solution.

Information about Female Pattern Hair Loss and Surgical Solutions Dr. McGrath Can Provide…

Female pattern hair loss (or genetic hair loss) occurs in more than one pattern. The patterns of hair loss in women are not as easily recognizable as those in men.

Hair loss in men is likely to occur primarily between late teen-age years and age 40-50, in a generally recognizable “male-pattern” baldness known as androgenetic alopecia. Men with male-pattern hair loss may have an expectation of hair loss if they have male relatives who lost hair in a recognizably male pattern.

ludwigUnlike hair loss in men, female scalp hair loss may commonly begin at any age through 50 or later, may not have any obvious hereditary association, and may not occur in a recognizable “female-pattern alopecia” of diffuse thinning over the top of the scalp. A woman who notices the beginning of hair loss may not be sure if the loss is going to be temporary or permanent—for example, if there has been a recent event such as pregnancy or illness that may be associated with temporary hair thinning.

If you are a woman who is worried about loss of scalp hair, you should consult a physician or hair restoration specialist for an evaluation and diagnosis.

In women as in men, the most likely cause of scalp hair loss is androgenetic alopecia—an inherited sensitivity to the effects of androgens (male hormones) on scalp hair follicles. However, women with hair loss due to this cause usually do not develop true baldness in the patterns that occur in men—for example, women rarely develop the “cue-ball” appearance often seen in male-pattern androgenetic alopecia.

Unlike the case for men, thinning scalp hair in women due to androgenetic alopecia does not uniformly grow smaller in diameter (miniaturize). Women with hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia tend to have miniaturizing hairs of variable diameter over all affected areas of the scalp… meaning they can be thin all over.

It is important to note that female pattern hair loss can begin as early as the late teens to early 20s in women who have experienced early puberty. If left untreated, this hair loss associated with early puberty can progress to more advanced hair loss if it is left untreated.

Dr. McGrath can provide full surgical hair restoration for women with female pattern hair loss for those who qualify. For more information on female pattern hair loss or to schedule a complimentary consultation and scalp and hair diagnosis, call 713-838-1880 or visit

Eyebrow Hair Transplants – Dr. Daniel McGrath

For over a year now, we have been working with one of the best hair restoration surgeons in the entire country and we couldn’t be more pleased with our partnership. Being able to offer ALL solutions to hair loss (nonsurgical and surgical) has been something we have wanted to do for years, and Dr. Daniel McGrath has made that possible for us.

What people may not know:

Hair transplantation has been used successfully for many years to fill out patchy or partial eyebrows, to restore absent eyebrows, and even camouflage scars within the eyebrow area. Various medical conditions can result in eyebrow loss, but probably the most common cause is self-induced.

Women who pluck their eyebrows run the significant risk of permanently damaging the hair follicles that are repeatedly plucked, thus causing permanent brow loss. Other causes of eyebrow loss include chemotherapy, trauma from accidents and burn injuries.

Eyebrows are very important to a person’s appearance since they essentially frame, and give symmetry to the face. Loss of eyebrow hair can have a profound effect on a person’s self confidence and general well being.

While eyebrow reconstruction technology had been reported as far back as the early nineteenth century, it has taken the evolution of conventional hair transplant surgery to take eyebrow reconstruction to the level the we see today. Some patients want to get full, thick eyebrows while some seek a subtle thickness.

Dr. McGrath has developed specialized techniques to restore eyebrows to a very natural appearance for men and women.

If you are interested in eyebrow restoration, call our clinic to schedule your free consultation to find out if you are a candidate at 713-838-1880, or visit

New Year, New Hair Continued…

Here are some fun, New Year’s Hair Resolutions to give yourself if you’re looking to spice up your lock-life…

new year hair

  1. Try that new color you’ve been wanting to try– Some of us are dying for a new hair color, others are considering a different cut and yet we’re too scared to act on it and actually make it happen!  Be braver this year and do what you feel is right.
  2. Restock when necessary– Throw away products with expired dates, pass along or swap the ones that are not doing it for you. Don’t wait for your brushes to fall apart before you decide to get a new one, and invest in some better quality brushes if need be! As for the products – either use them or pass them along but definitely ask for samples before you invest your hard earned cash in something you haven’t tried before.
  3. Spend a bit more– But only on the right products! If you love a certain product or you’ve managed to get some samples and decide that it is truly fabulous, don’t let the price stand in your way. You may end up spending the same amount purchasing cheaper products in hopes you’ll find a budget-friendly replacement.
  4. Deep Condition– Make a commitment to deep conditioning. It only takes a few minutes, but you’ll notice the difference and so will everyone else! There’s no time like the present to get started. A regular deep conditioning treatment will help lock in your hair’s moisture and keep it looking fabulous now and all year long. Talk to a hair loss specialist to find out what product would be best for you!
  5. Take care of your hair while you sleep– Some of us have experienced awful tangles in the inner layer of our hair the morning after a long nights’ rest. This year, resolve to use a silk or satin pillowcase, or sleep in a satin hair bonnet or hair wrap to keep your hair protected all night long. Not only will your hair look better when you wake up, it’ll prevent drying and tangling that cotton pillowcases often do. Loose braids are always an easy way to avoid tangling if you don’t have a satin pillowcase.
  6. Get new tools– Curling irons, flat irons and hot rollers aren’t designed to last forever. If you’ve had the same tools since high school, it may be time to toss them in the garbage and shop for new ones. This also means you can style your hair with less damage and your new ‘do might even come together more quickly and better looking than before. A good rule of thumb is to shop for new styling tools if you notice a smell emanating from the current ones or if you simply can’t remember how long you’ve had them.
